Preparation: The first part of the installation process at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC is to remove all debris on the floor. We also then will inspect the floor for imperfections, high spots, and low spots. This part of the preparation is extremely critical. The subfloor must be perfectly smooth. The floor must be within 16th of an inch tolerance. If the floor is not 16th of an inch, then grinding may be necessary. If your preference is to not grind the floor, it will require patching, filling all damaged areas of the concrete and or subfloor. This again is a major importance to this project.
Installation: As part of the Laminate flooring installation process below are the steps that the Laminate flooring installer will follow:
- All baseboards will be removed.
- All door jams will need to be cut in even with some commercial applications and residential on occasion.
- An underlayment will need to be installed in most cases.
- Laying out patterns.
- Checking for board repeats
- Properly spacing the end joints together
- Check for lifting, peaking, or sinking.
- Most Manufactures require an 8-inch overlap on end joints but we will follow the manufactures’s guidelines to assure a beautiful finish to your floor.
Finishing Touches: Finally, after your installation is complete, the Laminate flooring installer will follow the below steps:
- Reinstall your old baseboards. If the preference is to install new baseboards, we at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC will gladly install those for you.
- Install necessary transition strips quarter round.
- If specialty moldings are required, we will install those as well by applying caulk to your baseboards. This is done to assure a clean look.
- Clean the floor very thoroughly and check for any imperfections.
- Our laminate installer will make sure the customer is happy with the installation.
The average cost to install the laminate is approximately $3 per square foot. There are many factors that impact the cost such as floor grinding, special preparation, that may be required.
The timeframe for the installation is dependent on the situation and severity of the work involved.
Please note: This is especially true with our higher quality, heavier and difficult install products.

Is Laminate Flooring more expensive than other types of flooring?
No, it is not. In most cases, the alternative like wood flooring or tile flooring can cost triple if not more of the price.
Can Laminate Flooring be installed in bathrooms and kitchens?
Yes, but I do not recommend doing this. I’ve seen some manufacturers claim that their laminate flooring is 100% waterproof well after testing their products. I found out they are water resistant not waterproof. The laminate will swell in most circumstances.
How long does Laminate Flooring last?
At Tony Rivera Flooring LLC, all our products have at least a 10-year warranty. Most have a 50-year residential warranty, and a 10-year commercial warranty.
Can I install Laminate Flooring myself, or does it require a professional to install it?
In most cases it can be done by the homeowner themselves. At Tony Rivera Flooring LLC, we will gladly provide you free advice on how to install these products. We also can provide a demonstration; however, you must follow the manufactures installation guide.
