When people hear the word vinyl flooring, most of the time they are thinking about Luxury Vinyl Plank or Luxury Vinyl Tile, each is made-up of many different components.
Most of the Luxury Vinyl Plank we sell at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC have a 20-mil wear layer thickness. This became very popular because it also contains an antimicrobial backing, has a solid stone core, and is double ceramic coated for durability and scratch resistance.
The Luxury Vinyl Tile we sell at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC, is made to imitate the look of real ceramic tile. It is very easy to care for and requires low maintenance.

There are two types of Vinyl Flooring: Luxury Vinyl Tile and Luxury Vinyl Plank.
The difference between them is they have a wide variety of patterns. They also have a wide variety of pattern repeats. There are some that are 36 inches by 6 inches. There are others now that come in 10 inch wide and up to five feet long. There are some patterns that don’t repeat as often as others. For example, some have the exact pattern (also called pattern repeat) on each plank. There are some Luxury Vinyl Planks that are also available in an 84 square foot. Pattern repeat, means you will not see the same pattern on each plank.
There are many different manufacturers that have this product available. I personally have some that I like better than others. The ones that we like here at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC are Republic, Triumph and Engineered Flooring. They have a hand scraped appearance and feel very realistic to the touch even the nod holes that are found in natural wood.
There are many brands available on the market made by companies like Shaw and Mohawk. There are hundreds of different company names. The most important thing you must do is do your research to make sure you get the best quality for the money you’re spending here at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC.
Preparation: The first part of the installation process at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC is to remove all debris on the floor. We also then will inspect the floor for imperfections, high spots, and low spots. This part of the preparation is extremely critical.
The subfloor must be perfectly smooth. The floor must be within 16th of an inch tolerance. If the floor is not 16th of an inch, then grinding may be necessary. If your preference is to not grind the floor, it will require patching and filling all damaged areas of the concrete and or subfloor. This again is of major importance to this project.
Installation: As part of the Vinyl flooring installation process whether it is Luxury Vinyl Tile, or the Luxury Vinyl Plank below are the steps that the Vinyl flooring installer will follow:
- All baseboards will be removed
- All door jams will need to be cut. In some commercial and residential applications on occasion
- Luxury Vinyl Plank can be glued directly to the floor. Specialty products are available for this type of installation
Finishing Touches: Finally, after your installation is complete, the Vinyl flooring installer will follow the below steps:
- Reinstall your old baseboards. If the preference is to install new baseboards, we at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC will gladly install those for you
- Install necessary transition strips quarter round
- If specialty moldings are required, we will install those as well by applying caulk to your baseboards. This is done to assure a clean look
- Clean the floor very thoroughly and check for any imperfections
- Our vinyl floor installer will make sure you’re happy with the installation
The average cost to install the “click together” for both the Luxury Vinyl Plank and Vinyl Tile is approximately $3 per square foot.
If the preference is to purchase the glue-down version of Luxury Vinyl Plank and Vinyl Tile, the average cost to install is approximately $2.50-$3.50 per sq ft.
There are many factors that impact the cost such as floor grinding, special preparation, and specialty adhesives that may be required and can impact installation cost. The timeframe for the installation is also dependent on the situation and severity of the work involved.
