Waterproof Flooring is completely impervious to water, which means it will not expand or contract after getting wet.
There are many different types of waterproof flooring, for example, Porcelain or Non-Porous tile. They are still finding ruins in ancient Rome of mosaics laid out on the floor made of porcelain tile. They are still very popular and unique and used in bathrooms and or showers. If it’s Porcelain tile it’s waterproof!
We have many other new products on the market today such as luxury vinyl plank, luxury vinyl tile, luxury composite tile, and in-laid linoleum. There are too many to list, but if the flooring says 100% waterproof, it most likely is.
There are easy ways to test your flooring to make sure it is 100% waterproof. I’d suggest cutting a small piece of the flooring and leaving it submerged in water for 72 hrs. After 72 hrs, take the piece of flooring that is left over and has not been cut, and make sure they are both the same thickness. This will prove that your flooring is truly waterproof.

Preparation: The first part of the installation process at Tony Rivera Flooring LLC is to remove all debris on the floor. We then will inspect the floor for imperfections, high spots, and low spots. This part of the preparation is extremely critical.
Installation: As part of the waterproof flooring installation process, below are the steps that the waterproof flooring installer will follow:
- Laying out the flooring patterns as most of the time the flooring is designed as a checkerboard pattern.
- We then will mix up the color variations of course upon your request.
- In some cases, it will be necessary to cut the flooring for a proper fit.
- We also will need to make sure that we follow all the manufacturer’s instructions.
- At Tony Rivera Flooring LLC we will only use the proper glue. If the manufacturer tells us to use their glue, that’s the glue we will need to use. The last thing you want to do is void your warranty because you used a different glue than what is required by the manufacturer.
Finishing Touches: Finally, after your installation is complete, the waterproof flooring installer will follow the below steps:
- Install necessary transition strips quarter round along with any other tasks that is required to finish your waterproof flooring installation. In some cases grout the floor and seal the floor grout.
- In some cases, we may need to use welding rods which are made just for a particular waterproof flooring product(s).
- If specialty moldings are required, we will install those as well by applying caulk to your baseboards. This is done to ensure a clean look and make the area watertight.
- Clean the floor very thoroughly and check for any imperfections.
- Our waterproof flooring and or shower tile installer will make sure the customer is happy
There is no average cost when it comes to the cost of waterproof flooring installation. There are many factors that impact the cost such as floor conditions, materials used, adhesives, and manufacturer direction.
The timeframe for the insulation is dependent on the individual situation. Adhesives may play a role in your pricing; some adhesives cost much more than others.
